The good thing with agencies is that they usually have selected the best in the business to be on their books, meaning you can trust the performer, however in some cases the agency might not have worked with the performer before and they have just applied to work with them or are paying to advertise through their site. You may also experience a higher cost by booking a performer through an agenci’s website, as the agent has to make their money somehow, right!?

Nevertheless, they can still be very helpful. Sometimes a great way of testing this is to schedule a video call with the magician - do they turn up on time, are they well presented, do they have some magic to show you?

If you have a couple of professional preferred magicians in mind, you could shortlist a few of them and set up a call to get a feel for what they sound like and how they make you feel. If you feel comfortable or uncomfortable, then the chances are your guests will feel the same!

Another thing to keep in mind is that they fit in with your event theme. To put it bluntly, do you want a clown walking around at your annual dinner? On other occasions, I would have said I’m not the right fit, but after hearing in detail what the client is actually looking for I have been perfect for the job. Get a magician who listens to YOU.
